Exciting news from 2 Spuds!

I have been working behind the scenes with 2 Spuds in the Pod getting ready to launch this exciting news:
2 Spuds in a Pod on behalf of Bodycore and Active IQ now offer a Level 2 Awareness in Mental Health Qualification!

Working hard

At the beginning of this year I had the opportunity to do my trainer and assessor qualification. Cue lots of lessons, homework and assessments. I found the trainer course very interesting as it went through all the different ways someone can learn. I thought it was just a blackboard (sorry technological whiteboard) deal but oh no. Apparently there are 4 different ways people can learn and most of us are a mixture. These ways are visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic. To teach someone also has a variety of options. These are: lectures, group discussions, question & answer sessions, demonstration, brainstorming and role plays to name a few. As I say a very interesting topic to learn about.

Learning more

Once I had completed and passed these qualifications, I started to work with Bodycore. They are a training provider for the fitness industry. I was talking one day with some of the people on the course. I mentioned I had an interest in mental health. Somebody said that I could do a qualification in it. Next thing I knew was I was booked on to the course and ready to go.

The mental health qualification

This was also a very informative course. I had already completed the basics of mental health when I had done my exercise referral qualification. However, I felt I needed a little more background before launching 2 Spuds. I wanted to make sure I was equipped to deal with all mental health conditions. The course is fairly easy to complete, and the group discussions generated a lot of useful questions and people’s experiences. The assessments were laid back as well. I think this must be the first assessment which I have completed with an open book and all my notes. I must admit it definitely took the edge off and there were no assessment worries.

The market

I am aware that there are a lot of mental health qualifications on the market. However, the reason I liked the Active IQ one was because of the assessment. I just felt i cemented the information we had been taught a lot more than the ones that do not.

Next steps

After completing the mental health and trainer/assessor qualification, I discovered that I was able to teach the mental health course to members of the public. I thought this would be a great way to help people understand more about mental health whilst trying to break the stigma along the way. And that is why I am writing this blog today.
